Comprehensive Eye Exams

Eye exams at Family Eyecare in Linden include an evaluation of visual abilities as well as overall eye health.  This type of exam is very important for people of all ages.  For example, vision plays a huge role in learning, and therefore it is crucial to examine children’s eyes as early as possible.  Moreover, individuals suffering from medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, lupus, sarcoidosis, anemia (and others) are especially encouraged to check their eye annually because complications resulting from the above mentioned disorders may negatively affect the eye.  Often times, these complications go undetected for years and lead to potential permanent vision loss.

Family Eyecare offers the optomap® as an important part of our eye exams.

Contact Lens Exam

Before a trial lens is put on the eye, a full contact lens evaluation is performed to test overall visual abilities and the general health of the front part of the eye.  After a trial lens is inserted into the eye, the fit of the lens and overall vision with the lens is assessed.  If an individual is new to contact lenses, a technician will help teach the patient how to insert and remove the lenses from the eye.

Types of Contact Lenses:

  • Soft
  • Toric (for astigmatism)
  • Multifocal (for presbyopia)

Emergency Eye Care

An emergency eye exam is often warranted when an individual either got dust or foreign bodies in the eye, has scratched their eye, or is suffering from redness in one or both of their eyes.  During this exam, we try to relieve the patient of any discomfort they may experience as soon as possible.

Glasses

After a comprehensive eye exam is performed, a doctor determines a customized prescription.  That prescription can then be used to purchase lenses in our modern and fashionable optical dispensary.

Lenses

We offer a wide variety of lenses to fit all of our patients’ needs.  For instance, individuals with high prescription would benefit from High Index Lenses that are thinner and lighter than ordinary lenses.  Those over 40 years old may require different prescriptions for various needs.  They may appreciate Multifocal Lenses which correct for near and distance vision (bifocal) or near, middle and distance vision (trifocal).  These lenses have a line going through them.  For those individuals that do not want the line interfering with  their vision we offer Progressive Addition Lenses that correct for near, middle and distance vision without the lines of bifocal or trifocal lenses.

To help patients protect their eye from harmful UV Rays, we offer Transitions Lenses that are clear indoors, but darken automatically when individuals go outdoors.  For best protection from glare harmful UV rays, we offer Polarized lenses.  And lastly to keep children’s eyes safe, we offer Polycarbonate lenses, known for their impact resistance and lightweight properties.

Orthokeratology

is a process that uses specially designed GP contact lenses to temporarily reshape the contour of the cornea to reduce myopia (nearsightedness). Orthokeratology is nicknamed "ortho-k" and sometimes called corneal reshaping (CR), corneal refractive therapy or vision shaping.
